ABSTRACT

I was once invited to participate in a television programme featuring two men both of whom had phenomenal memories. Unlike someone I shall consider shortly, neither of them had been born with a remarkable memory. Both had deliberately set out to improve their memories. One of them, Jonathan, proved his extraordinary memory by looking through a pack of playing cards for about a minute or so and then recalling the sequence of all 52 cards with complete accuracy. The other, Dominic, showed his powerful memory by introducing himself to around 50 guests. From encounters lasting no more than a few seconds each, he was subsequently able to recall the names of all those people along with other information he had learned about them.
