ABSTRACT

Bill and Denise * are licensed clinical psychologists in their early thirties. They are business and marital partners. They began their independent practice two years ago and gradually evolved a schedule that meets their personal and professional needs. Each sees 15 clients a week, runs one group, and devotes five to 10 hours per week to building the practice, eight hours a week to record-keeping, and the rest of the time to reading, research, and other professional development. Their primary motivation for entering independent practice was control of their time and the opportunity to work together. They consciously developed a rigid 40 hours per week structure, maintain it, and thrive in it.
