ABSTRACT
Building on the formal description of the inference processes during film interpretation in the previous chapter, the present chapter will now put forward the functional dimension of the framework in order to bring together both perspectives as the basis for a generalised approach to multimodal narrative construction in filmic discourse which can be elucidated in linguistic terms.
