ABSTRACT

The majority of both clinical and empirical research writings focus on negative effects of divorce on children. But we should not conclude that divorce is always disastrous for children, and that most young people will feel some negative effects for a decade or more (Wallerstein, 1989/ 1991) . The current empirical approach of statistically comparing" divorce children" with "nondivorce children," and the clinical focus on psychological problems tend to expose only the darker side of the picture. A fuller description of the long-term effects of parental divorce may emerge when the children of divorce begin to conduct research based on their own life experiences.
