ABSTRACT
STEP 1 100 SKETCHES Before beginning a painting, Sargent was
said to do “a hundred studies.” He advised
his students that “you can’t do sketches
enough. Sketch everything.” I don’t have
Sargent’s patience to do 100 sketches, so I
did a few quick ones and decided which one
captured my story’s essence. I then scanned
my sketch into Painter.
