ABSTRACT

During his Golden Period, he

was influenced by Byzantine

mosaics, Celtic design, and

Egyptian art. Consequently he

frequently used symbols such as

the Eye of Horus to convey a sense

of divinity in his subjects and in

the final stages of his painting he

would use gold leaf over his oils to

create a golden throne for his

floating subjects. Although he

painted many landscapes, it was

women who were the catalyst for

some of his greatest masterpieces.
