ABSTRACT

In this chapter, as in the previous one, we discuss multidimensional scaling models. We introduce two major new notions in this chapter: (1) weighted distance models; and (2) models that are more than two-way. These models are all distance models, and as such share much in common with the simpler unweighted. two-way distance models discussed in Chapter 5. In particular, all the models discussed in both chapters use algebraic equations that have straightforward geometric representations based on distance.
