ABSTRACT

The most complete ethical guidelines for professionals working with sexuality-related matters was adopted by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists. The chairperson of the task force was Robert Kolodny, M.D., of the Masters and Johnson Institute, and the work was first published in 1979 with input from many professionals. The sections of the code are Competence and Integrity of Sex Therapists, Counselors and Educators; Confidentiality; Welfare of the Client; and Welfare of Students, Trainees, and Research Subjects. The AASECT Ethical Guidelines are subject to ongoing revision and clarification by members of AASECT, and recent copies may be obtained from the address listed in Learning Experience No. 45.
