ABSTRACT

All evidence points to the real difficulty people have obtaining good information about sexuality. Even when a reliable source is found, individuals may not absorb what applies to their particular situation. One of the strongest tools a counselor has is the ability to “hear” what a client’s misconceptions are and to supply accurate, personalized information. The client may not be aware of what he/she doesn’t know, so that the counselor also needs good focusing skills (Phase II) to avoid triggering defensiveness.
