ABSTRACT

Sexuality is an experience of the entire person, and therefore any factor which affects health is likely to have an impact on the way sexuality is perceived and expressed. Greatly varied individual differences in sexual activity following spinal cord injury, heart attacks, and hysterectomy have led to the realization that changes in sexual expression are often due to psychological/misinformation problems. This is true for any type of disease or disability, and while a counselor should never deny the importance of an actual impairment, in most cases patients can be helped to obtain more sexual satisfaction.
