ABSTRACT

Perhaps the following story will serve as a useful metaphor for integration and the appreciation of opposites.

There was a time even before time when the Almighty was all that existed and He grew very lonely. After being lonely for some time, He felt He may create something new in His experience. Then He imagined a brilliant illumination, and being pleased with His vision, He did in fact want to create it. The Almighty reached within Himself and drew some illumination from within His brilliance. It was magnificent, and He chose to call the brilliant illumination “Light.” (See Figure 7.1.)

Being tired from the energy and the Light He took from Himself He rested to restore His energy. After He rested, He decided to see how Light enjoyed its existence. He spoke to Light with the voice which seemed far, far away. “This is your Father, Light. How do you like yourself?” Light was totally confused with her father’s question. “I do not understand your question, for I do not perceive anything to like or dislike.” Her Father repeated a like statement, “You do not perceive anything to like or dislike? Yet you are so brilliant and beautiful. You must be able to see yourself.” Light responded, “Father, I see nothing beautiful about myself. In fact, I actually cannot see myself.” Father told Light they would speak again at another time, and in His confusion, He withdrew into Himself.
