ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we are going to look at the recovery process from different personal angles. You might call this our “troubleshooting” section-so instead of focusing on how troublesome our clients are in their recovery, we are going to hone in on the trouble that is of our own creation. Much of the work that is being done in relapse prevention today is geared toward the recovering person-and that is good-recovering people need to assume personal responsibility for their ongoing sobriety. However, there may be ways in which we as professionals actually are contributing to unsound recovery and relapse.
