ABSTRACT

Every person with bipolar disorder with whom I have talked has had both good and bad experiences with psychiatrists. The doctor who failed to give a correct diagnosis is resented by the patient who had to suffer greatly with symptoms for quite awhile. The doctor who has treated bipolar disorder adequately is held in high regard and is valued like gold by the patient. This section is an attempt to bridge the gap between doctors and their mental health clients by answering common questions from people at a bipolar support group. The answers are meant to be enlightening for both doctors and patients, and the responses that follow are not meant to put down or degrade psychiatric professionals. Finally, these questions provide mental health consumers with the knowledge they need to get more for their limited finances.
