ABSTRACT

The current DSM-IY description of the syndrome Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) represents the most current conceptualization of a longrecognized disorder characterized by inattention, impulsivity, and excessive unfo-

cused activity. The syndrome has been known by many different names over the past century. Still (1902) described a series of children with "defects in moral control." This term referred to his observation that these children had difficulty not only with attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity, but frequently with socially appropriate behaviors as well.
