ABSTRACT

Not so long ago, research methods textbooks were silent on the question of research ethics. Eventually, authors began to include information on ethics in the final chapters of their textbooks or in their appendices. This placement suggested that ethical considerations were mere afterthoughts and not worthy of a researcher’s attention. More recently, however, we have realized that a solid understanding of ethical behavior is essential for the researcher. So before we delve into technical questions about social research, we need to discuss research ethics.
