ABSTRACT
Introduction The development of research skills in 11-18 education is not a new strategy. It has
always been an important part of teaching, as teachers have attempted to provide
learners with the tools to undertake independent learning. However, these skills
have become increasingly vital in recent years, especially to post-16 students who
are being required to undertake significant amounts of research as part of a range
of examination courses.
