ABSTRACT

Every interactive whiteboard (IWB) has its own software that can be used to great effect in producing classroom resources. This is what makes the IWB different from simply using a data projector and a computer – because IWB software is dynamic and interactive. Three different types of IWB software are discussed: the SMARTBoard notebook, the ACTIVstudio2 flipchart produced by Promethean and the StarBoard flipchart produced by Hitachi. The floating tools can be used with any application, not just with notebooks. They include the annotation tools, the screen capture, screen shade and spotlight tools. To add or remove tools, use the Customize Tool icon. The default tools contain: area capture, select arrow, pen, highlighter, undo/redo, eraser, right-click, and customize. Annotations on a notebook page will be saved automatically when the notebook is saved. It is also possible to save annotations over other applications, such as Word, Excel or PowerPoint.
