ABSTRACT

The children analyse the data and produce the graphs needed to test their hypotheses. Dependent on the database/word processor combination used they will either have to copy or save their graphs and paste or insert them into their word processor report. Once all the children have completed their investigations and written their reports they could share their findings with the rest of the class. Because the investigations are different and the children have been involved in providing the data for the enquiries, they are likely to be very interested in the results. Finally explain that the information which the children have created is just as legitimate as information which is published in newspapers (or placed on the internet) and the approach to testing hypotheses which the children have just used is similar to that used to generate most of the ‘statistics’ featuring in newspapers and on TV.
