ABSTRACT

Data-logging equipment and software is used in all branches of science to enable continuous monitoring of experimental conditions. Most data-logging equipment will come with light, heat and sound sensors as standard so a range of investigations can be undertaken. Instructions are given through buttons and menus in ways that are similar to most current software and children can draw on their previous experience to help them to use the data-logging software. Most data-logging equipment comes with an interface which is connected to the computer via a lead. The Remote option is for setting up the data logger to capture data once it has been disconnected from the computer. Data are stored in the unit to be collected the next time it is connected. The live plotting of the data which responds to changes that are made to the sensors is a powerful demonstration of the way that graphs can represent changing circumstances.
