ABSTRACT

Increasingly as ‘internaughts’ – users of the internet – children are consumers and readers of hyperlinked multimedia information. Producing a resource for younger children, about the birds that visit the feeders can be a valuable way to encourage the authors to explain carefully and use images appropriately. The children’s level of science understanding can be developed and assessed through the process of representing their scientific knowledge using information and communication technology. Children should be becoming familiar with windows environments and recognise the need to select tools or give commands by clicking on the toolbars and using the menus. The number of sources and the range of forms that the children experience is one of the ways of adjusting the challenge of this task. Encourage the children to use the spell-check reminders and thesaurus to extend their vocabulary.
