ABSTRACT

Digital video makes images like the sequence above accessible to primary teachers and children. One of the additional benefits of using a video camera to gather data is that the camera’s timer can be used to measure intervals or provide precise timings. Digital video has put the filming and editing of moving images within the grasp of primary children. Digital video is a powerful tool for both primary science teachers and learners. The fact that children have seen the event ‘live’ makes the activity a more powerful learning experience than watching a pre-recorded video. Assist children appropriately, according to need, with connecting the camera to the computer and loading the software. Once connected, most software is very visual and only a few buttons are needed to view and analyse the captured video.
