ABSTRACT

Insert and position images taken from examples of Aboriginal art available online to create their own composition. The pictures can be developed using tools from computer-based paint or draw packages or other media. The activities start with a form of electronic collage using a paint file containing elements of Aboriginal art copied from the internet. The children are helped to choose the elements that they wish to use before using the select tool to copy, paste and position them according to their own designs. The final part of the information and communication technology process involves using the eraser, pipette and paintbrush tools. As one of the key distinguishing features of Aboriginal art is the dot-painting technique, using the round paintbrush in Paint allows children to move the brush and add dots to their design at the click of the mouse. Children should also have some understanding that moving the mouse controls the current tool selected on the screen.
