ABSTRACT

Walking up York Way, Islington, London, going north from Kings Cross, the landscape was one of transition. It would have been easy to pass 66 York Way without noticing the art installation, to walk right on by the outside of this ex-garage-cum-general plumbing supplies store—sitting along from a mini-cab firm, several greasy spoon cafes with peeling paint, and a derelict car park—were it not for the large letters reading “IN OUT” painted like a road instruction in the doorway.1
