ABSTRACT
This historical overview of primary education concludes with an extract which catalogues one of the most significant developments in English primary education in the last fifty years: i.e., proposals for a National Curriculum. Volume 2 of this series offers more detail of the responses and reactions to a National Curriculum for primary schools (Lofthouse, 1990).
