ABSTRACT

The article by Nastine Adibe attempts to draw together the many dimensions of Piaget’s work that relate to the processes of teaching and learning. In particular, the article demonstrates the ways in which Piaget’s ideas might serve as a basis for assessing children’s cognitive development with his theory of stages, and how a teacher might explore changes in children’s competence via the ‘clinical method’ developed by Piaget. We are also introduced to Piaget’s view of the role of language in cognitive development, an area which has been the subject of much critical debate.
