ABSTRACT

The loss, through death, of loved ones (bereavement) can occur at any stage of the life cycle (a non-normative influence). However, it becomes more likely as we get older. Some losses are more ‘non-normative’ than others, such as the loss of a child. This can occur at any stage from conception through to childhood and adolescence, and beyond. Miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal death are all forms of bereavement, as are terminations.
