ABSTRACT
Cable & Wireless has its roots in the Eastern Telegraph Company, which was formed in 1872 under the guidance of John Pender, a Victorian entrepreneur. This company linked London to Hong Kong by laying out and managing communication through telegraph cables. In 1934, the company got its present name, Cable & Wireless. Together with the UK operation, the activities in Hong Kong still dominate the group.
