ABSTRACT
Fourier believed that men are by nature promiscuous2 and that women are not intended for marriage.3 Moreover, Fourier maintained that with the advent of an average future expectancy of one hundred and fifty years, marriage will become intolerable. His strong disapproval of marriage, his desire to abolish the family, his strong feminism, 4 his psychological stress on the importance of preventing emotional and sexual frustration, all combine to make freedom of sexual behaviour an indispensable tenet of his system. He advocates trial marriage and free love.
