ABSTRACT

Sources of funding required to establish new school buildings, or to improve them, are largely dependent upon the type of school concerned. Independent schools are almost totally funded from non-statutory sources, although, in certain circumstances, government support may be provided. County schools, under the control of local education authorities, are the responsibility of the authority. LEAs, utilizing funding through their Standard Spending Assessment System, will determine the amount of money they wish to give to new and existing schools in their vicinity. A more complex situation occurs with grant maintained and voluntary aided schools. Some funding mechanisms, including those for GM schools, have been outlined in 1.8.
