ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I will expand upon Stewart’s binary classification of souvenirs as ‘Sampled’ and ‘Representative’ and establish a new category of the ‘Crafted’ souvenir. To achieve this I will introduce one ideal souvenir from each category that will serve as a typical example, from which the variation of ensuing souvenir objects and artefacts will later be assessed. I will then describe five souvenir attributes that are present, to some degree, in the expression of all souvenirs. They are:
