ABSTRACT

The power of the sibling connection and the way in which sibling memory can saturate one's adult family life unhappily has preoccupied my clinical attention for many years, and I am constantly looking for evidence of these phenomena, even when I am not functioning in my role as a psychotherapist. In 1982, shortly after publication of the The Sibling Bond, Michael Kahn and I were invited to appear on TV "talk shows" across the United States. This had not been our original intention, because we had written for a clinical and academic audience. However, the American public hungers to look inside relationships, and it is almost impossible to do sibling research without someone from the media asking for information.
