ABSTRACT

Most geography degrees are littered with speaking opportunities. This is a really good thing! Somewhere on your CV you can add a line like, ‘During my university career I have given 25 presentations to audiences ranging from 5-65, using OHTs, slides and interactive computer displays’. This impresses employers, but many geography graduates fail to explain that they have had these opportunities to hone this very saleable skill. Speaking lets you get used to managing nerves and allows you to become familiar with the question-andanswer session that follows. So grab all opportunities to practise your presentation skills. They all count, from five-minute presentations in tutorials to seminars and mini lectures.
