ABSTRACT
The real world is fraught with surprises. An AUV moves toward an object for photographic study, only to be pushed off course by an unknown current. Or its power suddenly fails, leaving only seconds to decide what to do. A medical diagnostician encounters new findings and hypotheses which change its view of a problem, or its client interrupts or fails to understand a question. Or, for any system, reasoning failures occur and must be handled.
