ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we discuss the major methodological issues that are at issue in many studies of autobiographical memory—including, of course, our diary memory studies. We also describe the content of the diaries, how they were collected, and the general procedure used during the testing session. For the reader interested in the exact procedure used in these experiments, we have provided an appendix with a detailed description of all the measures used in these diary studies, along with tables summarizing which of the measures were used in each of the studies. We end the chapter with a brief discussion of the multiple regression procedures that we used to analyze many of our data sets, including the rationale underlying, and inferential consequences of, their use.
