ABSTRACT

It is clear that criticism of cognitive models of human behavior is a minority activity. The cognitive paradigm continues to enjoy hegemony across the entire subject matter of psychology and is widely regarded as a major advance on previous theoretical approaches (e.g., Sperry, 1993, 1995). Theories based on this paradigm are all characterized by a reliance on the concept that cognition is central to human nature and that the best way to begin the complex task of understanding and helping other people is by focusing on conscious thought.
