ABSTRACT
Every student of Blake is acquainted with the "Ore cycle," the masterful construction by which Northrop Frye argued that Ore embodies inherent patterns of cyclic repetition. Ore, Frye says, begins as rebel but grows into his seeming opposite, Uri zcnic restraint. in a process that will repeat endlessly unless transcended by the attainment of higher consciousness. This development also entails a turn from political or social revolution (the Ore principle) to menial apocalypse.
