ABSTRACT

SUMMARY Within organizational communication theory applied to the implementation of telematics one can find a spectrum of theories and analytical methods stretched between two contradictory paradigms: structured analysis and interpretivism. This paper argues: • that up to now the paradigm of structured analysis has dominated the

analytical methods devoted to the implementation of telematics in organizations;

• that the difference between the two paradigms reflects the incompatibilities between technical information systems and social organizations;

• and, finally, that the dominance of structured analysis has caused a number of implementation problems, because structured analysis is an inadequate tool for understanding the human and social aspects of organizational information and communication procedures.
