ABSTRACT
Passage of the patient from Phase I: Testing, to Phase II: Working Through, is signaled clinically by control of the acting out, a consequent deepening of the depression, and spontaneous recall with appropriate affect and detailed memory of the history of the environmental separation experience which precipitated the abandonment depression.
