ABSTRACT

Parents, parental figures, and “significant others” mold, expand, and influence the intellectual and emotional development of the growing child; they have impact and are integrated in the dream life of all of us. The presence of the family in therapeutic sessions enables dream material to assist in the examination of dysfunctional communication among family members and affords the possibility of the restructuring of family relationships. Bynum (1980) describes how dreams can be used within a systems approach. This method is taken primarily from Bynum’s work.
