ABSTRACT

Guided imagery is a projective method of communicating with internal processes that occur outside of our conscious awareness. This internal exchange of information can be used in different ways. First, information about subtle physiological processes can be brought to conscious awareness as an aid to diagnosis. Second, the power of the imagination can be evoked to promote specific physiological changes as an aid to therapy. Third, cognitively, unlabeled ideas and feelings can be brought into conscious thinking.
