Intact Family with an Acting-out Adolescent book
The achievement of autonomy and a new self-concept is the major task of adolescence . During this stage of the family life cycle, a similar goal must be met by the parents who are facing an "empty nest" future . Thus, the two generations are simultaneously grappling with the conflict of dependence versus independence. The ambivalence that accompanies this struggle exacerbates the push-pull phenomenon, mixed messages, and confusion on the part of both parties.
