ABSTRACT
On July 15, 1985, the cover of Newsweek printed the photograph of a woman playing baseball with her two children. It had a huge title, “The Single Parent.” This cover page included the statement, “By 1990 Half of All American Families May Be Headed by Only One Parent.”
