ABSTRACT

During Stage I of treatment the context for change was created for the family and individual family members. Although much change in family interactions and feelings occurred as a result of Stage I interventions, this period primarily addressed: early case management concerns: assessment of the factors contributing to the family's vulnerability to incest; dealing with the family's resistance to therapy; reducing initial denial; and creating the reality that the family can and will eventually make significant enough changes so that incestuous abuse will never again occur.
