ABSTRACT

Group therapy is an integral part of our treatment program for incestuous abuse. While other excellent programs exist which use group treatment as the primary modality (e.g., Giaretto, 1982), we integrate therapy groups within the context of the Multiple Systems model. As such, we view the use of groups as important an element of the program as the family or individual sessions. This is because many specific vulnerability factors, especially those under the socioenvironmental rubric, can be best reduced through the nonfamily social interactions a group can provide.
