ABSTRACT

On the level of subjective experience, sexual desire or lust is an urge that impels men and women to seek out, initiate, and/or respond to sexual stimulation. But sexual desire is not just a subjective sensation nor is this merely a mental event. Sexual desire is a motivational or drive state that is generated by specific neurophysiologic processes in the brain. In this respect, sex is exactly like the other drives or appetites that subserve individual and species survival.
