ABSTRACT

Some psychiatric disorders are so obviously destructive to marital relationships—for example, alcoholism, substance abuse, psychopathy, and the major psychoses—that the spouse’s lack of sexual interest poses no mystery. However, more subtle psychiatric conditions in the partner, particularly the milder obsessive-compulsive states, as well as borderline and narcissistic personality disorders, can also wreak havoc with a couple’s sex life, and these conditions may go unrecognized.
