ABSTRACT
After some introductory statements on the nature of psychoanalysis and research in psychoanalysis, four topics will be addressed: psychoanalytic research on the developmental sequence; research on the outcome of psychoanalysis as a treatment; psychoanalysis as a system of explanatory description of phenomena derived from unconscious mental processes; and the process of personality change in psychoanalytic treatment.
