ABSTRACT

I had to report now to Dr. Nagle for the final scrutiny to see if he found me fit for chemotherapy. Dr. Nagle, blood reports in hand, extended a friendly hand and invited me into the office. We talked about my having recovered quite well from surgery in the course of four weeks. All the lab reports, he informed me, were normal, and all we needed to do was to decide on the date of the first chemotherapy. I said that I was ready and eager to start right away, not because I wanted it but because my eyes were fixed on the date it would be over. He repeated that I needed eight treatments, spaced every three weeks if my white count, platelets, and other indicators of my body tolerance of the chemicals suggested that it was safe to keep to the schedule as planned.
