In 1943, when I was in the second grade at P. S. 180 in Brooklyn, I was selected for my first managerial role: milk monitor. In retrospect, I learned all I needed to know about management and about managed care from that experience: supply what people need to function effectively, do it in a timely fashion, and distribute it equitably and you will succeed.
