ABSTRACT
However, frequently expectations are poorly formulated, especially when expressive of relived traumatic disruptions, or of amorphous enmeshment in pathological accommodations, or of fiercely aversive, repetitive and inflexibly concretized beliefs. The channels for expression of these heavily burdened expectations are varied. When enacted in the treatment setting they pull the analyst off his listening stance into role-dominated responses. Now the analyst must be open to some level of participation in the engagement and turn his listening to the particular form of "otherness" he plays out in his role within the enactment.
